Day in the Life of a Porn Star…
Yesterday we had alot of running around to do, chasing props for Star Wars XXX, a bit of production design and a meeting downtown…etc….in between we made a bit of time for some fun!
We made it over to check out the way cool Shepard Fairey ‘Revolutions’ gallery show in Santa Monica whilst prop shopping…fucking amazing! Then, realizing traffic was gonna seriously suck on the 10 Freeway headed downtown we swung over to Venice Beach to kill some time, check the Venice Art Walls for new graffiti (meh, we’ve seen better there before) and took a romantic stroll through the Venice Beach Canals.
Once downtown we did a few production design type things, had a meeting with the man in charge, then swung through the Arts District, took a few pix of some new Shepard Fairey pieces, enjoyed an awesome bowl of noooooodles and visited the outside of MOCA’s ‘Art in the Streets’ exhibit for a few pix…
Just a typical busy day in the life of a porn star.

Random Titty Pic of Thursday
On today’s menu…
Today we are heading over to a local Theatre that is selling off a bunch of props – don’t know what they might have but you never know. Probably nothing we can use on SWXXX but it’s worth a look. Got some errands to run as well…then we are thinking of dropping off for a few to peek at the Shepard Fairey exhibit ‘Revolutions‘ whilst we are in the Venice Beach/Santa Monica area. I have really wanted to see this exhibit and it’s the last week for it.
Afterwards we head downtown for a bit of quick production design then heading out to buy building materials so we can begin the Landspeeder. We will post pix as we build it over the weekend…
Random Titty Pic of the Day
Now go poke around the rest of the blog…there might be more…
Also visit www.kylieireland.com – where the hardcore is.
And www.streetdeekay.com my alter ‘street’ ego. Cuz I’m cool that way.
Tuesdays with Kylie
I don’t usually blog unless I have an absolute purpose to it…I will try to break that habit and mindlessly blog on a daily basis.
You haven’t heard much from me only because for the last few days we have been buried in production design research for Star Wars XXX…there were a few delays whilst things were sorted out but now it’s back on track and shoot dates are set for the last couple weeks of May. So, yes, we have approximately 1 month to build the Millinium Falcon cockpit and rec room, a landspeeder, parts of the Death Star & Tantive IV…the Rebel Conference Room, Lukes workshop…and more…. We are going to be living, breathing, eating and sleeping Star Wars XXX for the next 7+ weeks.
A lot of people have been asking me if I am still doing movies or if I am only working behind the scenes… I am still doing movies -in fact I have a few coming up-however I enjoy doing production design. I have been doing it for years, including Corruption, Upload, Icon, The 8th Day, Scream XXX and many others. I love the creativeness of it and the hands-on feeling of a job well done. It’s a rush to see a set I created com to life in a movie. It’s the artsy side of me.
Speaking of the artsy side of me I have a gallery showing (as DeeKay for my street art) coming up on the 28th at The Maximillian Gallery at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in Hollywood. They haven’t done the official press release for it yet but as soon as they do I will be posting it on both blogs – www.kylieirelandblog.com and www.streetdeekay.com. Until then I am creating original pieces on canvas for the show. Which is a bit challenging due to the aformentioned Star Wars XXX that has eaten my life... I wish I could show off what I have been creating but I have to keep it all under wraps for now…
To keep up on my street art adventures – I usually go out at least once a week – visit www.streetdeekay.com. That’s where I will be posting all new street art ‘activity’.
We survived AndyFest2011…barely. I was doing okay until the crossover day between AndyFest2011 and JanicePalooza (my best friend’s birthday celebrations) when I had an encounter with a Hula Hoop (see previous blog entry with photos)Even though I have been a star hula hooper since I was about 5, somehow I managed to injure myself hooping. I know, I know…of all things, right? I fucked up my shoulders/back and have been ouchy for days…today I visited my chiropractor and he put me back together however it triggered a migraine. At least I had my kitties to keep me company as I tried to recover….
In other news there is a smokin’ new scene just posted on www.kylieireland.com of me and Francesca Le gettin it on…believe it or not it was our first time together and we were really anxious to fuck…
Also, a couple weeks ago I found a handful of rare Kylie flyers in a box – so I saved a couple for my memory box and put the rest on Ebay for you! There are a few left so get on over there and get yours while you can… I will sign it personally to you!
Go here: Kylie’s Ebay Store – These few rare movie flyers I have discovered in a box can be YOURS!!!
Anyway, that’s the news from my world. More random blogging tomorrow!
Gosh Yarn It!
Fucking brilliant story of street art….of a different sort. I laughed my ass off.
Especially when Esther flashes her ‘gang tattoo’.
It’s an odd accessory for an icon such as the 42-foot-tall blue bear statue stalking the Denver Convention Center, but who else could wear an 8-foot ball and chain of crochet yarn in a complementary hue?
The inscription on this large-scale homage to handiwork read: “Slave to the Craft.”
And who but “Esther” and her gang of four crafty street artists — the Ladies Fancywork Society — could pull off a crochet caper of this magnitude.
“We have wanted to tag it forever,” said Esther, a street artist whose yarn “bombs” and string “grafitti” have enlivened other Denver statuary and landmarks — even lonely park benches and plain-looking bike racks — since 2007.
The ladies literally rolled out the ball and chain at about 4 a.m. today. It took 21 minutes to install the totally temporary jewelry on Lawrence Argent’s steel and fiberglass bear “I See What You Mean.”
It didn’t last long; convention center staff had removed the 15 miles of yarn by 6:40 a.m.
The lone commuter in the street, on a bicycle, stopped to watch.
“He needed something,” said Marilyn Mate. “I like it. It adds some playfulness.”
Before this, the ladies had crocheted 360 feet of “Wild Garden” flowers on chain-link fence around a downtown construction site near Union Station. That time it was legal — they even had a grant.
But Esther kept saying to herself: “One day, Big Blue Bear.”
The bear’s extralegal accoutrement consists of an enormous inflated rubber ball, chain links formed from a dryer-vent duct and an oversized leg cuff made from chicken wire. All of these elements are covered in a thick cozy crocheted from every skein of Red Heart Super Saver Turqua blue acrylic yarn Esther could lay her hands on.
Esther declines to give her real name, preferring to use the alias, which is her grandmother’s name. Her underground crochet society — consisting of mostly 20-something art majors who all use their grandmothers’ names — brings femininity to the gritty world of street art.
Esther lifts up the sleeve of her sweater to reveal her gang tattoo: a crochet hook.
“The DIY crafting culture is really growing,” Jeanne Lois had said, looking up at the giant ball she was wrapping with crocheted strips in preparation for today.
“It’s possible I shouldn’t have had a couple of beers before doing this,” said Esther, as the gang tried to unravel tangles in hundreds of feet of crochet.
“No, it’s only possible with beer,” said “Lucy Lynn.”
There are considerably greater technical challenges with this job than past works, “Maxine” said. “We’re learning as we go.”
And they are making a name for themselves. Queen Latifah is a fan (“We’re in her book.”). Media from the BBC to the Wall Street Journal to a Brazilian fashion magazine have come calling on the Ladies Fancywork Society. But WSJ wouldn’t do the story because Esther refused to give her real name. She bristles a little.
“The art is not the art. The art is the group bringing it to the street. We’re the message,” Esther said. “We’re girly, but we’re street artists.”
And street artists break the rules, she said, and even the law. The infamous British street artist Banksy is not required to give a surname, she said.
Bringing the domestic arts out of the home and into the street has stirred some surprisingly hostile responses, Esther said. Instead of “wasting yarn,” some advised, they should be crocheting hats for the homeless. No one tells painters they should be painting the houses of poor people, she said.
“We annoy a lot of people,” she said. “But we have a right to put our stuff out there. (Crochet) is much more an art of the people than other crafts. When the lower classes couldn’t afford lace, they developed crochet — first with their fingers.
Esther is so enamored of crochet she gave up a well-paying job providing graphic art for computer games to pursue her craft full time. She is creating a series of video craft tutorials called “Craftivore.”
“You think you know how to crochet, and then you hear about ‘abalone crochet,’ ” she said. “There’s always some new obscure thing to learn.”
Like how to crochet a giant ball and chain for a 4-story tall bear.

PS. If you are wondering why I posted this on my blog; 1) I am from Colorado. and b) I do street art (not with yarn).
